Instructions for completing Short Game Score Card.

Now that you have the proper equipment for your swing (assuming you’ve just purchased some new clubs from us), what you will find is that your long game will become more consistent. What will also become obvious is that your short game will be in need of some serious repair or maintenance.

You should be in the scoring zone with your short game. This is where, if you can dial it in, you’ll really be able to take your game to the next level.

The scoring zone is everything inside of 100 yards - the distance where you can impact your score the most. There are 6 types of shots you need to master for the short game:
  • Pitching – Inside 100yards
  • Pitching - Around the green
  • Bunker Play
  • Chipping
  • Long putting
  • Short putting
Golf is a difficult game to improve at for a myriad of reasons – lack of practice, lack of play, poor equipment, lack of proper instruction but we believe that the biggest impediment to improvement is the lack of effective, goal oriented practice and in particular, a lack of focus on the short game.

Eagle’s Back Custom Golf Clubs is 100% committed to building and fitting custom golf clubs so you can play better golf. To this end, we’ve decided to pull together a Short Game Performance Score Card so you can evaluate your short game in these six critical areas in the Scoring Zone. The Score Card will help you highlight the strengths and weaknesses in your short game and then hopefully, provide some structure to your practice sessions to improve the quality of those sessions and in turn, lower your handicap.

The overall objective of completing the Short Game Performance Score Card is to accurately evaluate your current skill level within the Scoring Zone using a type of Short Game Handicap System.

The Short Game Performance Score Card is structured into the six Scoring Zone categories. Write in your scores for each of the categories to determine your handicap for each category and an overall Scoring Zone Handicap.

2. Once you've completed the Short Game Score Card, determine your Short Game Handicap here.

3. Identify your strengths and weaknesses through your Short Game Handicap and then create a focused practice plan to address each category where needed.

With this type of focus, your scores will improve dramatically and you’ll have a lot more confidence and fun playing a round of golf.

Short Game categories:
  • Pitching – Wedges inside of 100yards
    • Distance control is critical. From inside 100 yards, for your wedge shots, place targets at distances 20, 40 60, 80 and 100 yards away.
    • Take two shots to hit each distance for a total of ten shots.
  • Pitching from around the green
    • Hit 10 shots from around the green (10 - 15 yards from the cup) and measure how close you come to the pin.
  • Bunker Play
    • Take 10 bunker shots to see how close you come to the pin.
  • Chipping
    • Hit 10 shots from around the fringe and measure the results.
  • Long Putting
    • Lag putting is a critical part of the game. Hit two puts each from 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 feet to the pin and measure the results.
  • Short Putting
    • Hit two putts each from 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 feet out from one side of the hole and measure the results. Do the same again from the other side for a total of 20 putts.
